We are pleased to offer the Beneteau First 454 “Caribe” built in 1982 when the Beneteau First series was a well regarded and stoutly built ocean cruising yacht of the times. Caribe is a Beneteau First 456 designed by German Frers, who is probably the among the very best yacht designers today who designs for Hallberg Rassy and other companies as well. Caribe was built in St. Hillaire France in 1984 and spent most of her life in the Caribbean after her prior owner sailed her there from the France. Her current owners bought her in 2002, and have enjoyed sailing all over the Bahamas, Eastern Caribbean, and Mexico, putting over 5,000 miles under her keel.
Caribe is the owner's version for the Beneteau First with two sleeping cabins, each with its own head. Both cabins sleep two in full size berths. Her main salon has a C shaped settee that makes up into a double berth. With the straight settee berth she actually sleeps seven! With head room of 6'4" she is spacious. You won't feel crowded even with a crew.
Caribe has had two great owners who maintained her very well. She has been repowered and updated with modern Raymarine electronics, all new winches and even Sirius Radio and an electric toilet. Read on. Caribe is in good shape. For the money, she’s a very good cruising boat that you can buy and just go live the dream!
The last Beneteau First like this that we sold was scooped up by an adventurous sailor from Denmark who bought her and hopped aboard and single-handed her home! The Beneteau First racer cruiser is a classic ocean racer of the 1980's and became well recognized as a single hand race boat.
You might not realize it but the Benjamin Beneteau founded the Beneteau boatyard in Croix de Vie France in the early 1900s building sailing fishing boats! His about 1964 his grandson and granddaughter started building fiberglass sailboats. The Beneteau First design was the first really successful series of sailing boats from Beneteau. The French sailors have always been the most courageous and adventurous and completive sailors and the Beneteau First established a reputation as a seaworthy pleasure craft for racing and sailing. Within a couple years in the early 80s the Beneteau was one of the top three sailboat manufacturers They expanded into the US building boats in South Carolina.
The Beneteau First of the early eights is regarded as a solid ocean cruiser. They were well built of solid fiberglass in the days when they actually used a lot of fiberglass. The hull shape is proven with a shape entry, beautiful full belly, and tapered stern. She looks like a boat should look. She sails fast. Her fine underbody and spade rudder makes her sleek, racy and responsive. There's a reason these vessels have been sought after by ocean racers for so many years.
Sisterships have completed circumnavigations and we’ve sold more than one. The first owners of Caribe sailed to the Caribbean several times to enjoy all the Islands. Her current owners have enjoyed cruising for four years all over the eastern and western Caribbean, and the East Coast, Bermuda, the Bahamas. They’ve had a grand time.
Over the years of ownership, they have cared for the boat upgrading her with whatever she needed. She’s in good condition and she is a good cruising boat for her age. She sails great and she’s comfortable with many upgrades.
Here are the highlights:
