Here is a rare opportunity to step into a ready to go, serious offshore cruising sailboat for less than doing all the work yourself. Canis Major III's owners have spent over forty thousand dollars on her in 2016 and 2017 and health is forcing the sale of their beloved cruiser.
Some of the upgrades on this great David Pedrick design include:
A complete list of all upgrades is available to serious buyers for the asking. This boat won't last long. She is beyond a 10 in terms of equipment and condition.

This is a very open two cabin layout with lots of room for a cruising couple and their kids. Stepping down from the very large cockpit takes you into an L shaped galley to port complete with a refrigerator and double stainless sink. A propane stove and oven with two new LP canisters is to the far port. Aft of the galley is a private stateroom with a queen sized bunk and a hanging locker in it. While the listing shows three double berths, the one in the aft master berth is actually a queen sized bed.
To starboard of the steps is the entrance to what is best described as the head from a 40 foot motoryacht, complete with a separate shower area larger than the last 75 footer that this broker was on.
Forward of the head is the navigation table and the electrical panel. Slightly forward of that is the downstairs set of electronics, complete with a Garmin 498 Map, an Icom IC M-502 VHF, as well as a new Sony stereo, AC controls, and the Blue Sky charge controller.
While we are on the subject of air conditioning, this boat comes with a slow start system, which allows the boat's air conditioning to be run with a small Honda 2000 watt generator. This allows you to run the air conditioning while at anchor. Not many 35 footers can do that. Another nice way to keep cool is the fact that there are screens for all hatches and ports. For those of you that don't want to use an air conditioner, there is two Hella turbo fans in the forward cabin and one Hella turbo fan in the aft cabin.
Forward of this is a long settee that houses the FIVE, yes, FIVE batteries that Canis Major III carries. To port is an L Shaped settee that hides the engine while giving you excellent access for routine maintenance.
Moving further forward takes you to the V Berth with its own set of hanging lockers. Of particular note, is that her owners have replaced all the lights throughout the boat, save one with LEDs
It is no wonder that this design has been a favorite amongst cruisers since its inception.
This boat has been well cared for a and lightly cruised by a seasoned delivery captain and his wife. She is in above average condition and is a turn key boat. From the tip of her mast to her wing keel almost every item has been upgraded, tweaked, or refurbished.
From the bottom to the top, a PARTIAL list looks like this. She got a fresh bottom job, polished hull and waxed topsides all in 2017. Moving up, we come to the new boom vang, bimini, bimini, connector and solar panels, as well as all new hatch covers. A new B&G Zeus chartplotter, autopilot, and a new Simrad radar were all recently fitted to the boat. The owners even went as far as to replace the windlass switches. Going inside, you notice the NEW interior cushions AND head liner. On the electrical side, they added a separate start battery and split the 4 house batteries into two banks as well as added a charge controller. They even added a high water alarm.
The owners serviced the engine, installed a new solar charging system, and have majorly upgraded this boat over any that are on the market. A full and exhaustive list of all her upgrades, additions and improvements are available by calling the broker.
Owner has a current monthly maintenance plan that includes bottom cleaning.
She wants for nothing but an owner to take her sailing.
No good discussion of a cruising boat would be complete without talking about its electronics package. Canis Major III has been seriously upgraded in 2016 and 2017 with some of the best electronics that you can buy.
She has a B&G Zeus 2 as a primary unit, running GPS, chartplotter, and radar through the screen. The Simrad 4G radar provides the radar signal for the Zeus. A NEW B&G autopilot takes over the steering for you when needed. On the starboard forward end of the cockpit is a set of Raymarine gauges for wind, speed (NEW) and depth. It is placed so all the crew can see what is going on.
Below decks, you find a Garmin 498 Map as a backup navigation device as well as an Icom IC M502 VHF with a RAM mike situated at the helm.
The NEW Sony stereo makes sure you have tunes.
This boat even comes with a DVD player and TV to round out your entertainment options.
In this ever connected world, we love our devices. Unfortunately they need WiFi. Canis Major III has you covered with a WiFi booster and wireless router that was installed by Island P.C. in 2016
Keeping all of this powered up is a Balmar 85 AMP alternator as well as a set of NEW E-Solar 60 Watt Zip in Solar Panels running through a Blue Sky Charge Controller so you don't cook the 4 house batteries and the 1 starting battery aboard.
On this boat, you want for nothing.
Canis Major is equipped with a reliable Yanmar 3GM30F engine with 1153 hours on the clock. Her seasoned owners installed a new impeller and changed the oil 20 hours ago so her new owners would be ready to sail.
On top of the new bimini and connector that was replaced in 2016, it should also be noted that in 2016, Canis Major III got her sails repaired and reconditioned.
Of particular note is that this boat carries a 90% blade up front opening up the air slot for the large main to do its job much more effectively. This gives the boat a much higher pointing angle than you would expect from a catboat.
Another great feature not seen on many of the other Freedom 35s on the market is the Hood roller reefing system. This boat has it and it makes sail handling much easier. the Job cars are adjustable from the cockpit making single handing or short handing much easier.
There are very few exclusions on this great vessel. The Honda 2000 Generator, a few personal items, including but not limited to, decorations, pillows, rugs, linens, towels, dishes, cookware, folding cushion seats, beach chairs & umbrella, and tools excluded. Those items are not conveying with the vessel.
