A charming ex-Danish fishing cutter which has been transformed into a successful charter boat business, perfect for those wishing to enjoy sailing from a bygone age on a seaworthy classic boat ideal for private, charter or sail training. Must be sold!
BROKER’S FURTHER COMMENTS:
The company owned and Croatian registered BENTE DORTE having been updated and maintained by her current owner as a skippered charter boat, offers her next lucky owners a wide range of opportunities to either have her as; a wonderful classic private boat, or as a skippered charter boat and possibly also as a sail training boat or maybe as a mix of all of these options. Sailing this wonderful classic boat will be like stepping back in time before the advent of the many modern conveniences and systems taken for granted on more modern boats such as sail furling systems, powered winches etc or indeed virtually any winches, with her having just one at the foot of the forward mast which doubles for assisting with halyards and the raising/lowering of the anchor. She has had many updates this year totalling we are told, around EUR 22,000 with more than eight months of hours going into her interior and exterior plus the rig, her sails are from 2005 but were serviced in 2019. BENTE DORTE has also benefited from a Surveyor’s annual inspection as required for her to be chartered. Her accommodation continues with the classic theme, as a charter boat the seller says that she tends to attract people wishing only for the simple pleasures in sailing a classic boat without the many systems and conveniences of a more modern charter vessel but obviously, if required more modern systems should be able to be installed. She has the Owner’s/Captain’s cabin aft, a crew cabin with twin single bunks at the bow and the main sleeping area forward of the main mast has 3x double bunks with a further single bunk plus there is a heads with a replaced electric flush marine heads, wash basin and shower. There is a saloon and galley area with the latter having a gas oven and stove, dishwasher, fridge, sink and cupboards. The original design dates back to around 1900 with the majority of the boats being motorised fishing boats whilst the larger variants being ketch rigged. Whilst it is believed over 6,000 examples were built by 1940, it is thought today that relatively few survive and therefore BENTE DORTE represents a rare opportunity to acquire such a vessel. She was discovered in Sjotorp, Sweden and subsequently re-built around 2005 with the tall-ship style rig and whilst retaining her traditional exterior style but at the same time, her interior was restored to combine the traditional style combined with integrating some modern conveniences to make her more practical and comfortable for charter work.
In 2008 she departed on a two year voyage around Europe before being based in the Adriatic coast of Croatia where she became a successful charter boat and where we are told she is the only traditionally rigged sailing boat of her size in Croatia and which there makes her much in demand as a charter boat compared to the more typical charter boat there.
“A short story about the boat and the company:
Bente Dorte was originally a Danish fishing Vessel and she sailed and fished on Baltic sea. During the 2nd World War was trasformed in a supply Vessel. She was discovered abandoned in a yard by a Croatian Naval Engineer working there. She was rebuilded and in 2005 she sailed a 2 years trip long from Sweden to Croatia. She was registered in Croatia as a Commercial Vessel for Charter purposes. She works there since 7 years and is annually inspected from the register. She is owned by a Croatian Company: MADIR D.o.o. and I’m the Director and sole rapresentative. The web page is well positioned in many research engines and could be a real ready to go business opportunity .
Up to now I’m the sole owner of the Company since the Croatian guy decided to quit the business. I spent 1 years to clarify all the accounting aspects and now the Company is clear and in good book keeping situation. I decided to refit the Vessel and the works will be finished by middle/end of july.
I decided to stop the business in Croatia and move the boat in Venice to be used as a floating accomodation and small trip around Venice Island waiting for a new owner”
