The Nauticat 33 was the design which propelled Nauticat into mass production boat building and proved to be immensely popular around the world with a production run spanning almost 20 years before the launch of the Nauticat 331. Offering a huge amount of living space for a vessel of just 10 meters in length the design found favour with cruisers and live aboards alike.
CASSIOPEA is a well maintained and presented example which has been continually upgraded through the current ownership. With painted topsides and still in her original gelcoat finish on deck, with fresh upholstery below decks she is presented for sale in genuinely sail away condition. Ideal for somebody looking for something between a yacht and motor yacht.

Built in the early days of GRP mass production boat building, Nauticat 33's were constructed when builders used substantially more material in the lay-up of the hull and deck mouldings than they do now. This heavy lay-up created very resilient finished mouldings which have withstood the rigors of use extremely well and have a long service life ahead of them.
The canoe sterned hull with stepped shearline has become something of a Nauticat trademark with the same form being used in the newer Nauticat 331. Below the waterline the Nauticat 33 has a traditional long keel form with the propellor located in an apperture at the aft end of the keel, the short rudder support from a skeg beneath. CASSIOPEA was stripped back and a preventative West System epoxy treatment applied in 2012. Below the waterline she is finished in a red antifouling. Above the waterline the hull has been painted in a two-pack white paint finish with single blue style stripe.
Combined with the hull the shape of the deck and wheelhouse moulding completed that un-mistakable Nauticat Silhouette. Constructed in the same heavy weight GRP moulding style as the hull both deck and coachroof retain their original gelcoat finish. The decks are finished with teak laid decks in the normal Nauticat style. All external timber work being of solid teak has been left to weather naturally, minimising maintenance requirements.
The ketch rig is ideally suited to motor sailing providing a multitude of sail plans for all types of wind directions and strengths, when all else fails the mizzen sail steadies the motion of the boat under engine in heavy seas. A popular choice for navigating south through the canals of France and onto the Mediterranean. The deck stepped masts can be easily lowered and stowed on deck for passage on canals.
All halyards are handled at the main or mizzen masts with the only the sheets and reefing lines for the genoa being lead aft. Mainsheet track is mounted on the wheelhouse roof immediately forward of the mizzen mast step. Mizzen sheeting is to a single point at the aft end of the aft deck.
With a solid teak guard rails running around the perimeter of the deck any crew moving around the decks while at sea feels safe and secure within the boat.
Forward a solid hardwood bowsprit projects forward from the stemhead with the forestay secured at the forward end and a chain bobstay securing the bowsprit in position. Twin bow rollers are fitted forward for use when mooring while the anchor self-stows in a dedicated roller on the starboard side of the bow sprit. The Lofrans electric windlass is mounted on the bowsprit, self stowing chain directly into the self draining chain locker. Two stout samson posts are provided port and starboard on the foredeck aft of the windlass.
The coachroof raises up at the aft end of the foredeck and runs relatively level aft to the wheelhouse windscreen. The deck stepped mast is secured in a coachroof mounted tabernacle with mast mounted halyard winches easily accessible. Side decks run aft following the sheerline of the hull with a moulded toerail outboard. Access to the wheel house is provided port and starboard via sliding doors of timber construction.
Aft of the sliding wheelhouse doors steps in the deck provide access to the raised open aft deck area. The steps both contain a self-draining gas locker. Mounted centrally at the aft end of the wheel house roof is the external helm position with steering wheel, engine and bow thruster controls. From this position the skipper gets a commanding view forward while primary winches for the genoa and mainsheet are all easily to hand. Gates in the guardrail midships provide access to two boarding ladders at the stern leading down to the small bathing platform.
The accommodation space in the Nauticat 33 is ideally suited to a couple cruising for extended periods or simply two couples cruising with lots of space and separate seating areas in the wheelhouse and lower dinette. The current owner has renovated the boat internally with recent replacement of the upholstery and perspex windows giving the boat a fresh feel below decks.
Providing two generous berths in the traditional V-berth layout the forepeak provides a spacious guest cabin. Access to the self-stowing anchor locker is provided forward. Overhead outboard lockers provide easily accessible storage space while below the bunks further bin lockers are provided for bulky items.
On the port side the forward heads is appointed with manual marine toilet, porcelain sink, hot and cold faucets and small vanity unit. A solid door has been fitted to the heads, upgrading from the original curtain arrangement and providing privacy if the sliding door to the galley is open. A hanging locker is located immediately opposite to starboard.
With the linear galley running along the starboard side the lower dinette opens out to port creating a private lower saloon. The galley is appointed with double stainless steel sinks, hot and cold faucets, gas cooker and front loading fidge. A generous worktop space is provided which increases with the sink infill piece in place. Lockers above the worktop outboard and some lockers and drawers beneath create ample storage space. With bench settees facing fore and aft the dinette can easily sit six people at the table for a meal with the area converting to an occasional double berth when required.
The wheehouse provides a lovely elevated living space fully protected from the elements with sliding doors port and starboard and a sliding hatch overhead which gives the space an outdoors feel on fine days. Seating is provided along the aft end of the wheelhouse with the helm position dominating the forward end of the wheelhouse. Small folding tables are provided port and starboard for use with the outboard seats aft. The centrally mounted wheel provides a good view around the boat while to port a large working surface extends forward to the windscreen serving as a chart table. Access to the accommodation space forward is provided via companionway steps to starboard of the helm.
Accessed via a small set of companionway steps at the aft end of the wheelhouse the aft cabin provides a grand master cabin complete with en-suite, electric heads. The large double bunk is offset on the portside with a dresser unit spanning the the aft end of the cabin. A compact heads compartment is provided within the cabin on the starboard side.
Accessed via the lifting sole of the wheelhouse the engine is contained within a fully sound insulated box within a dedicated machinery space spanning the full width of the boat. Twin fuel tanks are located outboard port and starboard with the batteries immediately outboard of the engine box beneath the footplates provided for working on the engine. Constructed of panels the full engine box can quickly be dismantled providing full access to the engine, gearbox and sterngear.
