Manufacturer Provided Description
With responsive handling, explosive acceleration, exhilarating speed, and aggressive good looks, the Abbott 33 is designed to put high-performance fun back into offshore racing while providing practical and comfortable cruising accommodation at an affordable price. She can be hauled on a simple tandem wheel trailer by the family station wagon or van to new waters or new competition. With handicap rules such as MORC and IOR changing so often, the Abbott 33 will not be outdated like a boat built to a specific rule. One-design construction and class activity creates a sailing lifestyle with built-in demand and immunity from obsolescence. The low wetted surface shape of the hull contributes to upwind speed and provides a delicate feel to the helm throughout a wide range of heel angles. The boat sustains its uncanny stability with a ballast-to-displacement ratio of over 54 per cent and a relatively deep draft of 5 feet 5 inches. The fullness in her stern deals successfully with downwind handling in a breeze. This narrow beam, light displacement boat can be handled by a crew of three or four and is capable of beating 40-footers with twice as large a crew. The self-tacking jib is efficient and especially useful in heavy winds, a great feature when you're racing or cruising shorthanded. The 5-foot 2-inch headroom of the Abbott means she'll accommodate everyone beautifully and still sail like a rocket. Her beautifully finished mahogany interior with teak cabin sole includes V-berths forward, a quarterberth to starboard, and settee - berths port and starboard. The Abbott 33 is built to a high standard of construction and equipped with the best in gear and hardware.
