Makara, a Celestial 48 Cutter, was recently sailed to Port Townsend, WA from Hawaii by Adventure Adrift, a sailing couple who create and post videos on YouTube about their adventures at Sea (search ‘Adventure Adrift’ on YouTube). They have been working hard to prepare the boat for more voyaging but life is pulling them in a different direction and Makara is now available for her next owners!
Recently Completed (2019):
The original owner was Fritz Warren (Former Sausalito Mayor). He commissioned the boat directly with Celestial and then completed 2 Circumnavigations on her in both directions: West-East in 1987-1990 and East-West from 1991-1995. The 2nd Owner raced her on San Francisco Bay. The 3rd Owner kept her briefly in the Bay Area but sold for family reasons and the 4th Owners cruised her to Hawaii and French Polynesia. The current owners, 5th, have owned her for 1.5 years and have been busy doing great upgrades for the boat getting her ready for her next voyagers!
Makara is powered by an 88hp Yanmar 6-Cylinder Turbo that had the top end replaced in 2015 w/ all new Seals. The last engine service was done in April 2019.
On deck, Makara is well laid out and easy to maneuver on the wide teak side decks and the non-skidded cabin house roof. The cockpit is large with great visibility and has a large hard dodger to protect the crew underway. There are two 160W Solar Panels installed on the dodger roof (320W Total).
Her Standing Rigging was replaced in 2015 including her Bow and Stern Chainplates. All other Chainplates have been replaced, with prior owners, and are visible for inspection.
Down below is extremely roomy and well laid-out. The Interior wood is Teak and Teak Veneer with a Teak and Holly Sole. Immediately to Port at the bottom of the companionway ladder is a navigation station and seat with lots of room for storage and chart storage.
The U-Shaped Galley is directly to starboard at the bottom of the companionway ladder. It’s well laid out and secure. The Galley has an Isotherm 12V Refrigerator and separate Freezer, a Force 10 Propane Stove & Oven, a double Stainless Steel Sink w/ Fresh and Salt Water Faucets and has lots of cabinets, drawers and storage available.
The Salon is forward of the Galley and hosts a large comfortable L-shaped Settee to port, with new upholstery and cushions, a new large table off the mast that folds out for the L-shaped Settee as well as for the starboard Salon Settee. A Diesel Forced-Air Heater keeps the cabin warm and dry and there is lots of storage in cabinets and under the Settee’s.
Going forward from the Salon takes you to the Forward Cabin and Forward Head. The Forward Head has a sink w/ Pressure Hot Water, a Jabsco Marine Head, Hot Water Shower, Mirror, Portlight and good storage. The Head is accessed either from the main passageway or directly from the Forward Cabin. The Forward Cabin has two newly built berths including the cushions and upholstery with lots of storage and good lighting from Portlights and new overhead Hatches.
Going aft from the Salon on the port side takes you through to the Aft Cabin. In the Passageway is the Engine Room Access Door and Electrical Panel. The Engine Room is large with great access and storage.
At the end of the Passageway, through a privacy door, takes you to the Master Cabin which hosts a large walk-around King Bed, great lighting, Portlights, an overhead Hatch, and lots of storage in cabinets, shelves and below the berth. Also in the Master Cabin is the Master Head which has a Jabsco Marine Toilet, Portlight, Sink w/ Pressure Hot Water and a Full Shower Stall.
Makara is a proven Blue-Water sailor and is ready for her next owners to taker her wherever they want to go, in comfort!
