The JESSIE M is a fine example of the lovely Sisu 26. This is a wonderful Royal Lowell design, re-knowned for her seakeeping abilities and her well-bahaved manners on the water. JESSIE M has had the luxury of an owner who has lavished her with meaningful updates since buying her in 2013. She has a new engine and running gear, and a full rebuild of the structural components under the cockpit sole. Total cost of these improvements exceeded $40k, but she is better for it, and her next owner will not have the threat of costly improvements.
The new, modern gas engine is a real benefit - this is a reliable, and very quiet, running boat. Ready for whatever purpose you propose - she can do it all, in true downeast style. This is an honest boat, and is only available as the owner's unexpected physical limitations will prevent him from using the boat. Come see her in Mystic, CT. NOTE: NEW PHOTOS WILL BE PROVIDED AS SOON AS THE COVER IS OFF!
JESSIE M is a simple, rugged, honest boat - with extensive upgrades and improvements.
Her cockpit is large and open, with the engine in an engine box, and two folding chairs for the helmsman and companion. The side panels on the SISU 26 were designed as bolt-on pieces, which allows them to be easilty removed, if desired, to convert the boat to a more open helm area, much as a true lobster boat with a pot hauler would be. Some owners have chosen to remove these panels and leave them open, or to fir the boat with canvas side panels that can roll up or be removed when desired.
The interior is very straightforward - a vee-berth aft of the chain locker, a galley area to port and a head to starboard. The galley is ample for simple meals, with a sink and ice-box. Adding a cooler in the cockpit would enhance the chilled food and drink capacity. The enclosed head, a real advantage over a ports-potti under a bunk, also includes a shower with separate sump.
As you know, Royal Lowell, ,the "Dean of the lobster boat designers", drew her lines, and that assures a pretty boat that moves efficiently and solidly through the water. This pedigree is perfectly matched with the simple, no-nonsense construction.
The story of the JESSIE M becomes very exciting when we get to the current owner's commitment to bringing the boat up to snuff for safe and reliable operation. The project consumed the better part of the off-season, was accomplished by a very skilled shop in Mystic, CT, and the results are a boat that is literally better than new.
Here is the list of work accomplished:
1. Entire cockpit sole was removed. All systems and structural components were removed. The entire hull was inspected to ensure the coring was in perfect condition (which it was).
2. New structural stringers, engine beds and deck floors were laminated, installed, and completely encapsulated in fiberglass and epoxy resin.
3. The following NEW systems and components were installed:
We may have missed some details, but as you can see, this was an extensive project and has left the boat in excellent working order, with great aesthetics, and sensible systems. Come take a look!
