Whether you choose to keep this vessel on the Great Lakes or venture offshore the world is your oyster in this Reliance 44. Completed in 2002, built at the boatyard of the Reliance Sailing Craft Company in Montreal, this vessel has earned a reputation as a cruise ready world cruiser. It is not uncommon to find these boats with years of experience crossing oceans.
The full keel with an attached rudder provides solid tracking under a traditional sloop rig. The hull and deck are constructed of hand-laid fiberglass with a balsa core and solid glass in high-stress areas.
The cockpit is deep and secure with a dodger, bimini and full enclosure. Off the stern is a wind turbine and solar panel mounted on dinghy davits to charge 3 AGM batteries.
The deck is easily traveled for sail work and anchoring. Large dorade vents and opening hatches deliver above-average ventilation below. At the end of day, there is headsail furling and a Doyle stackpack system to contain the main. An electric windlass with all chain ground tackle and a 68lb. “Bruce” type anchor gives peace of mind while on the hook.
Below there is a forward stateroom with large double berths, a double aft cabin to port and a well-equipped galley holding 2 fridge/freezers and three burner stove with oven. A nav station is found to starboard. All newer cushions covered in sunbrella fabric make for a comfortable salon.
This vessel was customized after the original build and the current owner prepared her for an extended cruise with many upgrades. The boat has been lightly sailed and there are less than 730 hours on the 59 hp Perkins diesel engine. The inventory boasts some of the latest cruising technology and “off the grid” equipment to avoid the need for dockside power. The boat has been in freshwater for all the years with the exception of a six-month stay south of the border.
