This 46 Rough Rider was delivered new in Europe in 1993, and came factory-fitted with two Mercruiser engines. In 2006, it underwent an extensive overhaul at the shipyard of powerboat engineering and racing legend Fabio Buzzi. Two brand new Seatek 750 hp, inline-6, 24 valve turbodiesel engines were fitted, along with a 4 foot-long rear platform to accommodate the twin Trimax surface trimmable drives.
Please note: The Seatek diesel engines have been conceived, designed and built as fast, military-focused marine engines, as opposed to several "high-performance" diesels which basically are a "marinized" version of car - or worse, truck -engines. Compared to the petrol-based Mercruisers, these turbodiesel Seateks allow a reduction running costs by at least 60%. Thus, compared to equally powerful gasoline V8 engines, these military Seatek diesels will be a much more economic and durable alternative, although their roaring sound and torque are simply exhilarating, thanks to the turbo boost pushing you back in the driver's seat.
The result by the adoption of the Trimax drives is the minimal loss of power and the precision and adjustability of the power trim to better manage the handling of the boat just like a normal sterndrive.
The rear platform also works as a practical diving and sunbathing spot which makes accessing the boat much easier. In 2015/2016, the engines were taken apart for a thorough examination at the Seatek factory and upgraded with various new parts. The transmissions have recently been similarly overhauled and several new features have been added over time to make the boat more user-friendly.
An efficient and robust mechanical fuel pumping system has also been installed, allowing the captain to choose which tank to source fuel from, resulting in evident boat-balancing benefits as well as ease of maintenance (no electronics, etc).
