Mettle is an incredibly strong and over-built commercial quality all welded aluminum hull by Wayne Reyse, famous for commercial vessels like the 100ft whale watching vessel ‘The Prince of Whales’. Mettle is 40 feet long and has a wider, more sea worthy beam of 12 feet. Mettle is made with Alcoa 5086 aluminum alloy, which is higher strength and corrosion resistance and more corrosion resistant than more commonly used and less expensive 5052 aluminum alloy used by other manufacturers. Mettle has a 1/2” bottom, 1/4” sides and cabin, full length deep chines and log skews ahead of the outdrives which together provide an incredibly smooth ride and the ability to turn the vessel at full speed with ease and safety. Five internal, water-tight bulkheads including crash bulkhead/chain locker up front. Beaching protection running from the bow a full 10 feet. Longitudinal cross members every 16”. Full length bow to stern 1/2” by 4” stiffener. Zero flex or creaking noise from the hull regardless of sea conditions. Mettle feels like it’s carved from one solid block of aluminum! High density, closed cell, positive floatation foam (same as used by Boston Whaler) sprayed throughout the hull below the water line and on interior cabin sides. This provides safety from sinking in the event of a catastrophic hull breach and maintains dryness, warmth and a quieter ride from water slapping against the hull. In 2018 the entire boat was sanded and painted with zinc chromate, Interlux aluminum primer, then Interlux Perfection top coat (four coats) and two coats of clear coat. For added protection, the hull was wrapped by Wrap Boats with a matching colour (grey) vinyl wrap. In addition, the bottom and outdrives were painted with zinc chromate, then JOTUN commercial primer and bottom paint (three coats). Displacement of Mettle is 10 tons.
Twin Japanese-made, highly reliable, Yanmar LP-STZE 315hp diesels. In line, four valve, six cylinder, 4.2L displacement. This engine is based on the venerable Toyota Land Cruiser Diesel engine, considered to be one of the most reliable engines ever made. This engine is currently still being made and sold by Yanmar. Parts and service are readily available. Approximately 640 hours on each engine. Fully serviced yearly and all receipts from day 1 available. Only 9 GPH fuel consumption per side at a steady 26 knot cruise. Top speed 30 knots. Two sets of stainless steel, four bladed props by PropTech. The engines are mated to two new (late 2019), Mercury Braco II X-Series heavy duty diesel outdrives. Oversized and strengthened internal gears and drive shafts. The BravoII is most commonly used in high stress/hour commercial applications. Only approximately 60 hours on these drives, still under warranty.

Mettle comes with an Achilles 240AL tender and a low hour Yamaha 6 hp four stroke outboard engine. Also a stainless steel Sea Wise Davit system for the transom which has currently been removed but comes with the boat.
