The Grimstadjolle (or GJ-Class) sloops were designed by Samuel O. Berge in 1943 as a Junior Class racing yacht. Built to class specifications by various Norwegian boat manufacturing concerns the class grew to about 200 boats in the mid to late 1950’s. Interest in the class waned in the 1960’s and 1970’s with many of the boats falling out of use and into disrepair. In more recent years a resurgence of interest in classic yacht design, construction and racing has brought the GJ sloops out of retirement with many boats being restored and actively raced. Along with restorations this new interest in the class has resulted in new boats being built and adding to the fleets. GJ-221 / USA-3 is one of this new era of GJ-Class Sloops.
Built be the Norwegian Wooden Boat Company in 2001, GJ-221 / USA-3 has not been used at all and as such should be considered a new boat no matter what the year of her build. GJ-221 / USA 3 is being offered for sale at a small fraction of her cost to build new and given her new boat condition this represents a tremendous value for any interested classic yacht fan.
This is a new listing for Brooklin Boat Yard. Additional and more complete information with follow shortly. Currently stored at her owner’s home, GJ-221 / USA-3 will be coming to Brooklin Boat Yard in late spring (2018) to be available for inspection by interested buyers.
NOTE: At this time there are no available photos of GJ-221 / USA-3. The photos shown in this listing are of sister-ships sailing on Norway. As soon as new photos of GJ-221 / USA-3 become available they will be posted here.
