Mike Harling, reknown Naval Architect. famed for designing the Queenship motor yachts (Admiralty, Saratoga & Berreta model lines) Mike is also credited with 2,621 other yachts that have been built to his designs (Harling series 80-115 foot yachts). But this boat, wasn't something that Mike got contracted to do... This boat came about due to a personal desire, where Mike simply was captivated by the popular Picnic style boats. Working with Mike at the time was Coralee Huffman and she collaborated on the interior of this boat. Coralee is known for interior designs, as in, the new Cruiser's Cantius 48, Apollonio's 72', Cresent Yachts, Lazzara Yachts, Queenship Yachts (typically in the 80 to 125 foot length). So this boat was built as a prototype. A showcase of two re-known yacht designers. Their plan was to build these in Asia. First things first, Picnic/Lobster boats require a commercial fishing boat hull that has proven rugged sea performance! Fishermen have to push the weather envelope... Their boats have to work, as they have to go out, get the catch, get a paycheck! They can't sit around waiting for sunny weather... It's demanding work! So pleasure yachts have always been well served by using commercial hulls. Because upon these proven gnarly hulls, you have a foundation of extreme ruggedness. Because this design team hails from the Canadian Pacific Northwest, they selected a tried and true commercial Salmon boat. The mold was available so with modest modifications, A new hull was popped out. Mike designed a Cabin top and Coralee added creature comforts that have dual purposes of gunk-holing, one stateroom for over-nighting and picnics for twelve.. Yet due to the influence that Mike and Corallee are employed for the designs of "Mega- or very large Yachts... they finished it off as if EVERY DETAIL was crutial. They completed and installed only the BEST ACCOUTREMENTS, as found specifically on high-end Luxury Yachts.
They knew upon completion... that if this boat goes into production, that future model accoutrements would NOT meet the elegance of this prototype, so they called this model the "CROWN EDITION"!
Unfortunately the economic collapse, showing up earlier in Canada and kept this boat from coming into production. At the time, the base production boat was slated to sell for $450,000.
