2005 Leopard 40 - 4 Cabin version
The Leopard 40 is one of the most popular catamarans on the market today. Robertson and Caine have succeeded in designing a boat with generous space, easy movement and with a great open cockpit that is well protected by a rigid bimini. All this giving light and space that is noteworthy for a modest sized catamaran.
Its also a boat that's very easy to manage shorthanded, with a comfortable helming station giving access to all controls and communicating easily with the cockpit. A real best seller that's convinced families and couples the world over.
She has all the standard features of the 4-cabin, 2-head Leopard 40 that won Cruising World's "Boat of the Year Award," plus all the cruising essentials and improvements that allow her to be totally self-sufficient and comfortable for coastal and offshore cruising.
Large shade awning for the foredeck and the drop down awnings at the side provide shade and wind shelter and make the front of the boat such a great place to be on hot tropical days.
She sails well in light air and really shows what she was designed for in wind speeds between 15 knots and 20 knots (the trades). The sought after cruising speed average of between 7 knots and 8 knots is easily achieved in that wind range. The boat doesn't have as much slapping and pounding of the bridgedeck like so many other cats. The chine design helps break up waves from underneath. Chines also put less hull in the water making for a smoother more silent sail.
Designer's comment (Gino Morelli) "When light, the 40's bow almost comes out of the water, which enables the boat to tack and jibe much more easily. We used a slightly deeper, slightly higher-aspect keel and spade rudders instead of skeg-hung rudders. That also gave the boat more maneuverability and translates to a boat with feel in the helm. Combined with lighter weight, we think that amounted to a substantial improvement over competitors as well as the previous Leopard design".
Embraced by the press and the sailing public, the Leopard 40 was awarded "Boat of the Year" for 2005. An accolade that has proven it's truth and value over thousands of sailing miles!

4 Cabin version. The interior is as well thought out, comfortable and liveable as the sailing systems on deck are for a cruising couple or family. This 40 features (4) Double cabins that share a single head in each hull. Each cabin features a double berth, excellent natural lighting and ventilation. As with all cruising catamarans, onboard life centers around the cockpit and saloon. The Leopard excels here where it matters most with oversized sliding doors that virtually eliminate the boundary between the two areas. Large forward-facing saloon windows provide excellent light and visibility; exterior louvers provide shade and steps up to the top of the coachroof. Cooks and watchkeepers alike will love the well-equipped galley up on the bridgedeck with a hinged countertop that opens adjacent to the helmsman and is directly connected to the countertop in the galley. Meals are easily prepared at sea or at anchor and served inside or outside at the cockpit table without the usual "galley down" accessability issues.
Galley Up and to port, Double Stainless Sink, H&C pressure water, two burner gas stove w/ oven, dual front opening fridge/freezer, gas Alarm, Microwave oven.
