Manufacturer Provided Description
While the Harbor 20 presents a graceful shearline counter, its underbody and rig make for a fast and easily handled contemporary daysailer. The result is a competitive, cost effective, and easy-to-use boat. With good stability and loads of conveniences, the Harbor 20 can be rigged in minutes and sailed single-handedly or with a group. The 20's accommodating cockpit holds up to eight persons. Deep coamings provide comfortable back support. Two removable ice chests are tucked in just under the deck. All halyards and lines are led below the deck. They lead to the Harken hardware mounted on a shelf at the aft edge of the cuddy cabin. This design keeps the deck clean and simplifies sail control. The self-tacking Hoyt club boom and the roller furling gear eliminate much of the jib sail handling. The club boom will also act as a vang, holding out the jib when running wing-and-wing. The fully battened mainsail is also easily dealt with as lazy jacks are rigged for easy furling on the main boom. The Harbor 20's 900 lb. torpedo-like bulb keel keeps the weight low in the water. This keel design gives the boat plenty of stability in heavy winds without slowing it down in light air. W.D. Schock builds the Harbor 20 to one-design class rules. As an option, Schock offers CopperPoxy non-sloughing bottom coating sprayed into the hull mold. It reduces annual bottom maintenance to a simple wipe-down. This copper-based, environmentally friendly barrier is carried in an epoxy binder which resists osmosis. The bottom finish does not deteriorate when hauled out for winter storage.
