Design and Construction
This a masthead cutter design by Fred Amor of Amor Marine. One of 27 in the series, this is a very solid blue water cruiser. The hull is cored fibreglass with a 3/4 length keel. The design delivers an easily driven hull that is very stable. The deck features wide side decks and a safe and deep cockpit. A boat built in British Columbia by a current yard, this boat is a rare opportunity to own a turn-key deep water craft capable of taking on the High Arctic or the South.
Accommodations
The layout is a custom, by the factory. The forepeak area is reserved for storage and a work space. The head is in this area and has a shower and molded floor with sump. The main salon has two large settees with lots of storage under and behind the settees. There is a large drop leaf table on the centreline between the settees. The "U" shaped galley is next back to port. The large nav station is opposite to starboard. There is a large enclosed quarter berth to aft of the nav station, creating a three cabin layout. The interior is panelled in tongue and groove which also makes up the headliner. Trim is varnished mahogany and the sole is solid teak.
Amor 40 is a small series sailboat built in Vancouver. The boat has spent the majority of its life on the Canadian west coast. The boat is called Silent Sound. He sailed mainly in the Pacific to New Zealand. It is a very sturdy built boat.
In 2009, Silent Sound made the Northwest Passage from Victoria to Halifax. In preparation for this passage, the then owner had reinforced the hull with four layers of Kevlar. A book, The New Northwest Passage, was published to document the expedition.
The boat was acquired in Halifax in 2010 and has been sailing the St. Lawrence River ever since.
Since its acquisition, a major upgrade has been made mainly in terms of motorization (new engine) and electricity (the boat is autonomous in terms of electricity production).

Le Amor 40 est un voilier de petite série construit à Vancouver. Le bateau a passé la majorité de sa vie sur la côte ouest canadienne. Le bateau porte le nom de Silent Sound. Il a navigué principalement dans la Pacifique jusqu’en Nouvelle Zélande. C’est un bateau de construction très robuste.
En 2009, Silent Sound a fait le passage du Nord-Ouest, de Victoria à Halifax. En préparation pour ce passage, le propriétaire d’alors avait renforcé la coque de quatre couches de kevlar. Un livre, The New Northwest Passage, a été publié pour documenter l’expédition.
Le bateau a été acquis à Halifax en 2010 et navigue sur le fleuve St-Laurent depuis.
Depuis son acquisition, une mise à niveau importante a été faite principalement au niveau de la motorisation (nouveau moteur) et de l’électricité (le bateau est autonome au niveau de la production d’électricité).
