More details about the boat type and construction:
The interior is tasteful varnished teak. The same quality and style, as in other Swedish west coast boats such as Hallberg-Rassy, Najad, Regina by Vindö. The owners have maintained nterior with extreme care, always had carpets on the floors and protected and maintained all the woodwork. A fantastic wooden design detail, in this Malö 38 is the fine Malö designed table in the saloon, which folds out to double size and provides seating for 6-8 people around the table.
Cushions are in good condition, but the covers on a couple of the cushions will need to be replaced as there are signs of wear and tear and marks on a couple of them.
The boat has had 2 owners - current and first owner, both from England. The first owner sailed holiday sailing in England the first years and in 1998 sailed to Lagos in Portugal. After she came to Lagos it became only shorter sailing trips as the owner suffered badly from rheumatism. The current owner bought her in 2002 and sailed in Portugal and Spain, including overnight tsails to Ibiza/Balearic Islands with a winter stay in Spain in Cartagena. 2010 to 2014 they sailed locally inshore in Spain around Cartagena. In 2014 the owners sailed back to Lagos in Portugal and sailed day cruises around Lagos until 2019 when the husband sadly passed away. After that, there was very limited use of the boat and only a few sailing trips as Corona limited the use and the possibility of travel for the widow.
The current owner is now determined to let Gretel pass on to new owners who can use her for what is best for and deserves. A large part of the equipment was upgraded when the current owners bought her in 2002, but also again when they later during the years 2010-2014, as described, sailed a little longer than just day trips. This means that the sail (mainsail) is from 2014 – and very sparingly used, the rubber dinghy and outboard motor from 2012 also very litle used. In addition, the VHF, Sprayhood, The fixed windows in the Cockpit, the stove and the refrigerator (compressor) were updated these years.
Over the years, installations, valves and seacocks been continuously replaced and updated. Most recently, the sea valve for the engine cooling was replaced in 2022. The rig was replaced in 2010 and regularly inspected annually.
Engine has been serviced annually but also very limited use, but nevertheless started and driven as part of maintenance.

The interior is beautiful, classically lacquered precious wood and very well laid out. A master cabin with a double bed in the bow for 2 people. In the stern there is 1 cabin with room for 2 people. In the Salon, at least 6 people sit comfortably in the 2 comfortable sofas, a U-shaped sofa and a sofa/berth on either side of a large, beautiful fold-out table. It is also possible to use sofas as berths. There is also plenty of space in various cupboards and storage areas under sofas and some space under floor. In addition, there is also a navigation station with all instruments and plenty of space for navigation planning etc. The kitchen/pantry is well equipped with plenty of space for cooking on gas stove and gas oven as well as excellent space in cupboards. There is also an very spacious and well-furnished cool box with compressor from 2014.
The toilet is equipped with a large washbasin. Shower in the form of a pull-out faucet and floor drain that drains to bilge. Toilet with manual pump, of course with septic tank.
The current/former owners have primarily used the shower in the cockpit when on anchor, which has both cold and hot water, but works fine with the shower option in the bathroom. In addition to the fixed windows, the well-protected cockpit has a fine sprayhood that protects against vind, sea splashes and sun, and has plenty of room for a comfortable everyday life outside as well as for safe sailing. There is also a bimini and sides that turn it into a cockpit tent for additional protection against rain and sun if desired. A bathing ladder, davits for the dinghy and also a Hydrowane wind rudder are mounted on the stern.
The boat can be sailed from the cockpit as all lines can be controlled from here and can thus be relatively easily sailed by 1 person if desired.
The teakdeck is original from 1994, and therefore somewhat natural worn, but no leakage anywhere. A new owner might want to change teak remove and paint deck, or replace with Flexiteek or other, within some years.
