ntroduced as the 34 Santego in 1989, Carver’s marketing gurus confused everyone by calling her the 638 Santego in 1992 before finally settling on the 380 Santego designation in 1993. This was a popular boat in the Carver fleet for many years thanks to her spacious condo-style interior and a very competitive pricing structure. The Santego’s expansive salon—with facing wraparound settees and twin dinettes—create the kind of party-time accommodations seldom encountered in a boat this size. A pair of full-height sliding glass cockpit doors provides an abundance of exterior lighting, and the wide-open expanse of a single-level floorplan has to be seen. There’s seating for a crowd on the huge flybridge where concealed steps in the windshield fold out to provide a walkway to the foredeck. Hatches in the cockpit sole provide good access to the motors and V-drives, and there’s builtin lounge seating in the small cockpit. On the downside, Carver never replaced the Santego’s bolt-on swim platform with a more stylish integral platform. A surprisingly good-riding boat in a chop, standard big-block gas engines cruise at 18 knots and reach 26–27 knots top.
