The Pilot Saloon employs infused sandwich construction with a balsa core to provide stiffness, strength, insulation and weight-savings. A composite structural grid is fully bonded to the interior of the hull to accommodate rig and keel loads, while an extra layer in the bow provides impact resistance – if it would occur…..ergo, piece of mind! Displacement is just under 27,000lb. yet sturdy at every corner port or starboard, fore or aft. With her plumb bow and a chine aft to improve form stability under a press of sail, you will feel safe and stable while under sail avoiding that “washing machine” feel.

With a generous LOA 41.67 feet,  LWL 36.09 Beam 13.25in.,  you won’t feel claustrophobic aft or below! The Wauquiez has a draft of 5ft 5in. The fractional rig supports double, aft-swept spreaders and a total working sail area of 973ft. The 110% jib is furled with a furler as is the UK Halsey in-mast furling Mainsail. Convenience at your fingertips, but let’s hope you are sharing this marvel with 4 or 5 sailing friends:).  The current owners are only one of two owners.  The couple has kept meticulous care of this yacht even storing the cushions each off season indoors. With her two-cabin arrangement, the master cabin is aft and two steps down, with a large center-line bed (new mattress) and you can stand at the starboard side of the bulk below an overhead indent with a series of small opening ports. Because this is an aft-cockpit design, there’s no large hatch overhead for you to bump your head (as with many other cruising sailboats) With almost a hotel suite feel, you will be surprised at how much room the closets and cabinets can hang and hold in the Master Cabin! One might even consider living aboard with all the nooks and crannies available for long cruise storage. The wet locker in main saloon provides drainage and could also house a washing machine if desired. The V-berth has enough room for folding bicycles as well.  

The raised saloon might not be for everyone, but if you are looking for a cockpit sloop with this type of saloon model this is really what makes this design remarkable. DINING with VIEWS. When looking at the dining area, the designer included a high circular table to starboard that can seat six people for a cozy dinner. The impressive cabin windows provide 270-degree visibility even when you’re seated and include a number of small opening ports to bring in a cross breeze. Another novelty is the straight-line galley to port. With no indentation, it is well-laid out with lots of countertop space enclosed by a series of fiddles integrated into the Corian. Ingenious boards fit into the dual sink for even more cutting board space. The gimbal-ed 2-burner stove will handle any menu choices when cooking for a crowd. Icebox (with drainage) can be found forward of the galley and navigation desk is in the port aft corner.  

As far as instrumentation, newer Raymarine electronics with 4G radar, charting software and autopilot controls at the helms have been installed recently. Inside at the nav desk, an iPad can repeat most information from the MFDs above providing a space-saving solution for quick-reference navigation. Previous owners we’ve asked say this boat showed signs of forgiveness for anyone at the wheel and the overall feel of the boat is that of a luxury car requiring only the lightest touch on the helm.   The 54 HP VOLVO Diesel is also powerful and quiet if run as your “IRON GENNY”:)
