The Gorbon 53 pilothouse was custom built in Turkey, but seems to be specifically built for Pacific Northwest cruising. In the cockpit, her twin helms provide great visibility, access to all sail and engine controls, and are covered by a robust bimini. Wrap-around seating aft of the helm stations is perfect for 10+ guests to stay out of the way and still get to enjoy all the fun of the adventure. When the weather turns, file the whole team into the main salon to stay dry and warm. From there, an elevated plush captain's chair provides great comfort while controlling the engine via joystick and electronic throttle. There is excellent visibility through the large salon windows complete with windshield wipers. The galley is set down just three steps from the salon and has an open, airy feel. Entertaining on the Gorbon 53 is a pleasure all around. Sailing is a breeze with the self-tacking jib and the LeisureFurl mainsail with all lines running aft to the cockpit leading to six Harken self-tailing electric winches. Timelines are easily met thanks to the 220hp Yanmar engine. Cruising from the Pacific Northwest to Alaska and beyond will be a dream on this yacht.
Highlights include:
Espar heater
Yanmar engine with low hours
Onan generator
AIS transponder
Slip in Semiahmoo Marina, Blaine WA available in addition to purchase of the yacht
The interior is finished with satin varnished cherry and sturdy features throughout. The overhead is white high gloss beadboard held in place with cherry battens and LED light fixtures recessed in. All overhead lights have switches on cabin bulkheads and the galley and salon lights are equipped with dimmer switches. Courtesy lights are placed in high traffic areas lighting the sole at night. Solid varnished mahogany tongue and groove planks overlay plywood creating a sturdy sole. Chrome latches secure all cabinets, overhead hatches are equipped with Oceanair screens and shades and portlights are all high polished stainless.
Starting forward, the owner's stateroom has a V-berth style bunk that is 6’4”in length and5’ 8”wide. The mattress is custom designed, giving any at-home mattress a run for its money. Storage is not lacking in the cabin; two drawers under the bunk provide easy access and the support boards lift up for more available space. Six cabinets line the hull over the bunk and a separate hanging locker is just to starboard upon entering the space. Two LED reading lights are at the head of the bed and overhead LED reading lights are recessed into the headliner throughout the cabin. There is a switch just inside the cabin door to turn the lights on before entering the cabin. There are two opening portlights, one overhead Bomar hatch with integrated an Oceanair sunshade and screen and two Hella Turbo cabin fans to keep a good cross breeze in the space. The cabin is quite spacious with two dressing seats, and the solid cherry door separates the cabin from the rest of the boat. From inside the cabin only, is access to the ensuite head.
The ensuite head with shower in the owner's stateroom is separated by a solid cherry door. A split teak grate raises the sole slightly above a shower sump completing the finished look of the space. The electric toilet faces aft and is slightly raised from the sole. The forward bulkhead is solid white paneling, countertops are Corian and overheads are molded plastic to all give a polished look that is also easy to clean. A chrome towel bar hangs above the toilet and outboard is the porcelain Vitra sink set into the countertop. The single action faucet delivers hot and cold pressurized water. Along the hull is a mirror with LED accent lights. Good storage is available in cherry cabinetry both with secure latches. At the aft section of the head compartment is a separate shower stall with a clear Plexiglass door. A single lever faucet is mounted to the bulkhead with a household like shower head. Outboard in the compartment is a wet hanging locker and one shelved locker, both with drains with plenty of room for towels. The shower drains into a shower sump box that pumps into a gray water tank under the galley sole.
Aft of the owner’s cabin is the guest cabin on the port side. Two single bunks are side-by-side with drawer storage below, six in total. A hanging locker is built into the forward outboard corner of the cabin with drawer storage below and a small countertop trimmed out in cherry finish wood. Great access to the stainless chainplates is available here and the jib furling line also runs through this cabinet. Above the outboard bunk is one open shelf with chrome bars and another with latching cabinet doors. Two stainless portlights and one overhead Bomar deck hatch let in light and fresh air to the space. Screens are provided for the portlights as well as the deck hatch that also has a sunshade. A LED reading light is mounted for each bunk and overhead LED lights are recessed into the overhead for a modern finish.
Opposite the guest cabin is the guest head. This smaller head is also great as the day head and easily accessible from the salon. The Dometic electric flush toilet faces aft and is raised similarly to the master head. This compartment has almost identical finishing touches; teak grate, mirror with LED accent lights outboard, single cabinet, and drawer for storage, all with high-quality finish work that is seen throughout the boat.
The galley is next aft, featuring a stainless sink, three burner propane stove and oven, Frigoboat front access fridge, microwave and Vitrifrigo freezer drawer. This sink is forward and just off centerline for optimum drainage while sailing and has a household size Insinkerator garbage disposal. All gray water drains into the 35 gallon plastic tank that sits below the galley sole and can be pumped via macerator pump. The stove is set into the countertop outboard and is allowed to gimbal when underway. There is a small storage compartment below and four drawers just aft for utensils or other frequently used items. The refrigerator is set under the countertop and opens with a secure spring loaded latch. Ample storage is above the countertop with latching cherry cabinetry and forward above the sink are storage for mugs and peg storage for custom dishware. Opposite the U-shaped galley is the freezer drawer set down low and recessed into the wall. Additional storage is available under the steps with a sliding shelf for pots, pans or larger galley appliances. A Hella cabin fan, two opening portlights and open overhead makes the galley well ventilated when cooking.
Up the four steps into the main salon, you are greeted with 360 degree views, comfortable seating, helm controls and nav desk. Beginning with the helm station; a Stidd helm chair elevates the helmsperson in comfort with plush white faux leather upholstery and a stainless foot rest bar. The helm station has a Garmin chartplotter, VHF, B&G wind and autopilot controls, engine panel, bow thruster control and jog steering. Sturdy cherry grab rails surround the console so buttons aren’t accidentally pushed when moving about the cabin. The 12v electrical panel, bilge pump switches and engine ignition is below the console. Opposite the console, is comfortable seating around the drop leaf dining table. Plentiful storage is below the L-shaped settee, and it converts into a double bunk for extra guests. At the aft end of the cabin is a communications and navigation station with the 24v DC and AC distribution panel. A large hatch with gas hinges in the sole allows access to the generator space below the salon. The cherry salon door opens out to the large aft cockpit. The lower glass panel slides up to allow your furry friends to pass through at their leisure.

The Gorbon 53 Pilothouse was custom built in Turkey. A foam cored grid was laid for frames and stringers then covered in fiberglass and resin creating a very sturdy hull. The keel is fastened to the underbody of the boat with substantial bolts. The keel is a large fin with a bulb and a reported 13,760 pounds of ballast.
Teak decks overlay the fiberglass with a clean path from the cockpit to the foredeck. The bow is uncluttered with a self tacking jib and all control lines led through organizers on the cabin top. The anchor windlass is mounted far forward with a forepeak hatch just aft. The space is large and provides access to ground tackle, windlass and bow thruster battery and tons of storage. A three inch tall teak toe rail surrounds the deck edge with six stainless deck cleats and open stainless chocks. Stainless stanchions with lifelines surround the boat with a boarding gate on both port and starboard sides. Walking aft, there are three steps down into the cockpit area just forward of the helm stations. The custom stainless awning provides good hand holds as well as a grab bar at the helm station. The teak decks continue into the cockpit area creating a sophisticated feel. An abundance of seating is available for guests to enjoy the sail while staying out of the way of sail handling. The U-shaped seating surrounds the folding leaf cockpit table. Below the seating are cavernous storage lockers and a three rung stainless ladder to access them. Just outside the cockpit coaming on the starboard side is the propane locker that holds two25 pound bottles and the port side currently holds a liferaft and lifejackets. Just forward of the cockpit table, the sole opens to provide access to the main engine, drive shaft, and watermaker. Gas hinges assist in lifting the sturdy hatch and hold it open. There are two helm stations in the cockpit, both with throttle, bow thruster controls and duplicate chartplotter and sailing instruments. The cockpit is easily navigated, has good visibility and all sail control lines lead to electric winches. There are six electric winches, all with dual speed controls. Sheet holders are molded into the cockpit combing to keep things tidy. At the aft end of the seating area, two molded steps on either side of the transom provide access to the swim platform. A flip down four step ladder provides access for reboarding in the water and can be deployed from in the water in an emergency.
